Comprising over 185,000 bricks, the sculpture is a mockup of the famous Mallard locomotive and lies only 1000 yards from the track bed of the world’s first railway line which ran from Stockton to Darlington.

From 1849 Tees Cottage Pumping Station revolutionized water supply in Darlington and Teeside by offering cleaner, piped water to inhabitants who had previously relied on wells and rainwater tubs.

 

Piercebridge Roman Fort

Piercebridge Roman Fort features interpreted remains of a fort site known as Morbium, which dates back to around AD270. Some of the finds from this historic site are on display at the nearby Bowes Museum.
